HERITAGE CELEBRATION WEEKEND featuring the FESTIVAL OF TEXTILES
Saturday & Sunday, August 8 & 9, 2009 ~ 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Come celebrate textile traditions at Lang Pioneer Village during Lang’s Heritage Celebration Weekend featuring the “Festival of Textiles” on August 8^th and 9^th from 10am to 4pm each day. On Saturday, enjoy a period clothing fashion show, the largest historical fashion show in the region- back by popular demand.@1:30  it's a go! Enjoy “Canadian history in music” with Juno-nominated recording artist Mike Ford, represented by Prologue to the Performing Arts, on the Village green.

Experience a “Sheep to Shawl” both days as you watch handweavers and spinners create a shawl from start to finish beginning with sheep shearing demonstrations and ending with a raffle for the completed shawl. On the green, take an opportunity to view various textile demonstrations including weaving, rug hooking, quilting, knitting, spinning, lace making, tatting, natural dyeing, basket weaving, rug braiding and textile conservation. Interact with members of visiting guilds including the Northumberland Rug Hooking Guild, Campbellford-Seymour Rug Hooking Guild, Peterborough and Warkworth Handweavers and Spinners and the Warkworth Knitting Guild. View an antique sewing machine demonstration in the Milburn and an antique spinning wheel display by Our Spinning Heritage Museum in the Town Hall. Visit the Trades Barn and see how traditional corn brooms and rope are made.

Be sure to stop by the Village’s Keene Hotel, where you can purchase a nice cold glass of lemonade or ginger beer and fresh baked fruit pie, cookies and taffy tarts. Also, don’t forget to visit the Cheese Factory to pick up a bag of fresh Empire Cheese curd. Take a tour of the Village by free horse-drawn wagon ride and children can try their hand at weaving by creating their own woven bookmark to take home.

3. Centreville - Free Return Visit in June

5. Harbourfront Centre

6. Bata Shoe Museum

7. The Gardiner Museum
Always FREE  for kids under 12. Free for everyone else every Friday from 4-9pm and all day on the first Friday of every month The Gardiner Museum is the only museum in Canada entirely devoted to ceramics. 8. City of Toronto's Historic Sites Free Weekends Celebrate Toronto's 175th anniversary at the City's historic sites: Free on weekends all summer
Mayor David Miller recently announced that admission to 8 of the City of Toronto's historic sites will be Free on weekends in July and August. The City is taking this first-ever initiative to commemorate Toronto's 175th birthday while offering residents affordable and accessible activities during recessionary times. Visitors can enjoy programming and events at Colborne Lodge, Fort York National Historic Site, Gibson House Museum, Mackenzie House, Montgomery's Inn, Scarborough Museum, Spadina Museum: Historic House & Gardens, and Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre. Programming at the sites features music, drama, crafts for kids, heritage recipes to taste and other fun for the entire family.

9. Riverdale Farm Check out the four legged beasts at Riverdale Farm, Toronto's only Free downtown Farm. On Riverdale Farm you'll have the opportunity to experience numerous farming responsibilities. You'll see farm animals, including horses, cows, pigs, goats, and chickens. Demonstrations are another attraction for visitors. Milking, cream separating, butter-making, egg collecting, sheep sheering and more.

10. Lionel's Pony Farm & Petting Zoo in Stouffville, where there are a wide range of things for families to do for FUN!  It's a great little petting zoo to take the kids to, with a large variety of animals and birds. Children can also feed the animals. Pony rides are available but you should call ahead to make sure that rides are available (they may be reserved for Birthday Parties). Nominal cost for riding twice around a designated area. The Petting Zoo is Free however donations are appreciated.

Celebrate Your Pet Day -June 13th, 2009 Bowmanville Ontario 1pm - 4pm

Here's a great way to have fun & help animals too!
The Bowmanville Vet Clinic is hosting a Celebrate Your Pet Day, an activity filled afternoon to raise money for the Durham Humane Society Rebuilding Fund. In December, the shelter burnt down, 150 animals lost their lives, and now they are raising funds to help get them back on their feet.
Camel Rides - take a ride on one of the Bowmanville Zoo's camels
Penelope, the baby Gibbon from the Bowmanville Zoo will be visiting with her keeper for a meet and greet.
Mickey the Wonder Dog (as seen on television) will be performing some of his amazing tricks!
BBQ and refreshments
Teddy Bear Surgery - bring in your injured teddies and repairs will be performed on them in our surgery suite by a real veterinary surgeon!
