Tough Times? Check out Rick’s Advice!

One of my favourite books is Tough Times Never Last,  but Tough People Do by Robert Schuller. I’d like to make a collection of stories along this line that reflect the Canadian Experience.  Please leave a comment with your suggestions for the collection.  Here’s my first discovery:

Wild Beginnings: In January,1999, things looked bleak for Rick Smiciklas. With only $100.00 left in his bank account, he was about to declare bankruptcy. Trying to remain positive, he noticed an ad in a real estate paper for a business in Northern Ontario: a unique restaurant specializing in chicken wings. Right away, Rick saw the potential, and bought it then and there without even thinking of how he would cover the payment.

Next day, Rick asked his mother-in-law for funds to cover the cheques he used to purchase the business . His mother-in-law obliged a kindness for which Rick will always be grateful. The Grand Opening of the first Wild Wing in Sunderland, Ontario was postponed by one day, when Rick and his wife became parents for the very first time. With the vision of his beautiful wife and new daughter in his head, and their humble beginnings, he opened the first Wild Wing the next day and the LEGEND WAS BORN.

Through PASSION,HARD WORK,DEDICATION, and most of all,PERSERVERANCE, Wild Wing Restaurants are now Canada’s fastest growing restaurant franchise.

From that one restaurant opened March 17th,1999, Wild Wing has rapidly expanded to almost 100 locations including three in Alberta. Truly inspirational!

So when things are looking bleak, take Rick’s advice: “Go Ahead! Get Wild!”
