Brake-line Tampering Alert!

Police are asking drivers to check under their cars for dripping brake fluid and to pump the brakes while the car is in park to check for resistance after a number of brake lines have been tampered with in Guelph and Toronto.

"We've had reports that between Monday and Tuesday —sometime overnight — we've had six vehicles parked on a street in the Queen Street [East] and Woodbine Avenue area had their brake lines damaged or tampered with," said Toronto Police Const. Wendy Drummond.
Police are treating these incidents as related."They all happened during the same time period, they're parked on the same street, what the motivation is — or is there any motivation outside of mischief — that we don't know at this point," said Drummond.
In addition, at a private residence near Church Street and Carlton Street ,two other vehicles, both belonging to the same owner, were tampered with the same night.
On Wednesday, Police in Guelph,  80 kilometres west of Toronto, said they were investigating "six reports of vandalism that occurred overnight in the northeast area of the city of Guelph,"  including two incidents of brake lines being cut.
During the 2008 federal election campaign, similar incidents were reported in Toronto which seemed to be targeted at the homes of Liberal supporters in St. Paul's riding. At that time, there were more than 30 reports of brake lines, phone and cable lines being cut in mid-town Toronto.
